Why NEAT Deserves More Attention Than It Gets

NEAT is often the single biggest source of day-to-day variation in how many calories two similarly built people burn. A naturally fidgety, on-your-feet lifestyle can burn hundreds more calories per day than a mostly seated one — independent of any formal exercise. This is also the component most people can meaningfully increase without much effort: taking stairs, walking calls, standing desks, and parking farther away all add up.

Where TEF Comes From

Protein burns the most to digest. The thermic effect of protein is roughly 20–30% of its calories, compared to 5–10% for carbs and 0–3% for fat. Putting It All Together
